Smartphone Free Childhood Advice

Mrs Courtney was delighted to meet with a group of parents last week, from the Saint Patrick's Primary Parents' Group for Smartphone Free Childhood. This group of parents are wishing to raise awareness around this movement, which is concerned with children and smartphone use. A growing number of schools are implementing strict n o-smartphone policies and supporting parents in delaying smartphone ownership.

Research consistently shows that a complete ban on smartphones during the school day is the most effective approach.

At Saint. Patrick’s, we do not allow the use of smartphones for our children on school premises, but do allow Year 6 children to bring them to school if their parents choose to allow them. They are then locked away during the day. We do not allow any phones on school trips or residentials.

Next term, the Saint Patrick’s Primary Parents’ Group, will schedule a 'drop-in' session for parents interested in the Smartphone Free Childhood movement, to enable them to share information, resources and offer further support.

We respect that every family must do what they believe is right for them, but if you would like further information in the meantime, please contact Mrs. Courtney who will share your details with the group.
